Rep. Luján Named Vice Chair of Technology and Innovation Subcommittee

Rep. Ben Ray Luján has been named as Vice Chair of the Technology and Innovation Subcommittee of the Science and Technology Committee. As Vice Chair of the Committee, Rep. Luján will play an important role as Congress considers measures to foster innovation and improve our economy through research and development of renewable energy and other emerging technologies. This is quite an achievement for a freshman member of Congress and Rep. Luján will be in the middle of the action in the U.S. House on green technology development.

“I am honored to be named as Vice Chair of the Technology and Innovation Subcommittee,” said Luján in a release today. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to make research and development of renewable energy technology a priority, and to encourage innovation that will create jobs and ensure that America remains a leader in the global economy.”

"I look forward to working with Vice Chair Luján in his new leadership role on the Technology and Innovation Subcommittee,” said Rep. David Wu, Chair of the Technology and Innovation Subcommittee. “Together, I hope we can foster innovation and support the research and development necessary to grow small businesses in areas such as renewable energy."

The Subcommittee handles issues related to technology, standards, innovation, and American competitiveness. It has jurisdiction over the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)—including research, standards-setting, and programs to encourage growth in manufacturing and the high-tech industry; research grants for small businesses; surface transportation research; and the science and technology directorate at the Department at Homeland Security.
