NM Legislative Interim Committees to Hold Initial Meetings This Week

Several Legislative Interim Committees are holding their initial meetings next week. The main purpose of the initial meetings is to develop the committees’ work plans and meeting schedules.

The Mortgage Finance Authority Act Oversight Committee will meet at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2011 at the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority Office at 344 Fourth Street SW in Albuquerque. Chair of the committee is Representative Joni Marie Gutierrez (D–Doña Ana–33).

On Tuesday, June 7, 2011, the Radioactive and Hazardous Materials Committee will meet at 10:00 in room 321 of the State Capitol in Santa Fe. Chair of this committee in Representative Antonio Lujan (D–Doña Ana–35).

On Wednesday, June 8, 2011, the Economic and Rural Development Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. in room 322 of the State Capitol. Senator Bernadette M. Sanchez (D–Bernalillo–26) is Chair of the committee and Representative Debbie A. Rodella (D–Rio Arriba, Sandoval, Taos–41) is Vice Chair.

All interested parties are welcome and encouraged to attend the meetings. I think these interim committee meetings are great. it gives both democrats and republicans a chance to thrash some of these issues out, and have some public input as well.
What I would like to see is more of these meetings in the southern part of the state. Without input from the south all comments are based on Albuquerque,Santa Fe and Los Alamos views. I do appreciate our democratic and republican legislators taking the time to have these meetings and they do a good job, I just want them to be aware that we in the southern part of the state crave some attention as well. Thanks.
