DFA: Edwards Wants You to Know Where He Stands on Iraq

From Democracy for America:

Hear Senator Edwards' Response

Last month, Democracy for America members petitioned the presidential candidates to oppose any escalation of the Iraq War, demand a swift end to the occupation, and propose a plan that brings our brave men and women home. We delivered over thirty thousand signatures and comments to every candidate and asked them to respond.

Senator John Edwards took time to shoot a video response to you and we are excited to make it available today.

Senator Edwards believes Congress should use their funding authority "to force George Bush to steadily bring troops out of Iraq." He believes troop levels should be "capped initially at one hundred thousand" and wants all combat troops out of Iraq in about a year. Senator Edwards closes his remarks with a thank you:

"Thank you for organizing at a grassroots level and building a movement to try to end this war in Iraq... and for helping build a movement to deal with all the big issues that matter in this country."

This video is just the beginning.

Over the next several months, DFA members will work together to pressure the presidential candidates on the most important issues. The road to the Democratic nomination is a long one and each candidate will be working hard for your endorsement and your vote. Victory in 2008 is up to us.

Thank you for everything you do,
Tom Hughes, Executive Director

P.S. John Edwards is the first candidate to answer your call for a direct response. If you like what you see and hear, I encourage you to sign up for his campaign and help in any way you can:

That said, this message should not be construed as an endorsement of Senator Edward's candidacy. In the months ahead other candidates for president will be reaching out to Democracy for America members too, because you have the power to shape the presidential primaries in a way no one else can.

Editor's Notes: Democracy for New Mexico is loosely affiliated with the national group, Democracy for America, which has its origins in the presidential campaign of Howard Dean when it was known as Dean for America. Click to learn more about DFA.

DFA-Democracy for New Mexico Meetups are held on the first Thursday of the month in Albuquerque. To become a member and join our email list, visit our Meetup site. You should also register at Democracy for America so you can be kept informed of their actions on the national level. Once registered, you can also join our DFA Link group. Although we still use Meetup for our meeting organization, members are urged to also register at our DFA Link page.

In contrast, in an interview in today's NY Times, Hillary Clinton says that, as President, American troops will be in Iraq on a permanent basis. Read it. The true Hillary is revealed.

It only takes ONE U.S. Senator to filabuster funding for the War/Occupation/Territorial Pissing in Iraq. 1 Senator! If the Democrats and the Republicans want to put the interests the Military Industrial Complex, Big Oil, and the Zionist Regime in Israel over the interest of the USA, to hell with them. Why do you New Mexican's keep re-electing Bingaman, Wilson, Domininci? Tar and Feather em!

Jim-I did read that about Hillary. She's so "strong on national security" isn't she? None of that feminine namby pamby peace stuff for her. I also found it horrible that she couldn't bring herself to disagree with Gen. Pace's assertion that gay people are "immoral."

She said she's for getting rid of the ask don't tell policy for the military, that gay people served honorably and that we need them because of the dwindling number of people signing up. But when pushed on whether she considered them "immoral," she said that was better left to others to decide. She couldn't even agree with Sen. John Warner, a Republican, who has openly criticized what Pace said. Weak, weak, weak.

Ask the ABQ Journal why they underreport daily violence in Iraq

https://www.abqjournal.com/news/submit.htm

At least 50 Iraqis were reported killed or found dead today and 73 more were injured. Several Saudi and Syrian fighters were also killed. And, two American servicemembers were killed in separate incidents in Anbar Province. The U.S. military reported that a soldier was killed in combat and a Marine died from non-combat related causes in Anbar Province yesterday. Also, U.S. forces killed an Iraqi soldier and wounded three in Mosul when they mistakenly believed the men to be militia members. Another civilian was mistakenly killed in Baji. Six people were killed and 23 injured in Iskandariya when a car bomb detonated as a mini-bus carrying state employees drove by. Clashes followed an attack on a police station in Dhuluiya. Five gunmen, which included Saudi and Syrian fighters, were killed. A policeman was also killed and another one was injured. Three bodies were also found.
Eleven bodies were found scattered around Baquba.
In Mosul, a car bomb wounded a policeman. Gunmen shot dead another policeman and a cook working for the police department. Yesterday, a previously unreported car bomb killed two and wounded eleven.
Two charred bodies bearing blindfolds, handcuffs and torture wounds were discovered in Kirkuk.

The concern is that Richardson has a strangle hold on fund raising in this state. Anyone contributing to Edwards or attending an Edwards fund raiser may be flagged by the Richardson Admin. and be made to pay a price as being disloyal to our Governor...forever.
By anyone, I refer to New Mexicans that normally hold fund raisers for pols and otherwise are names in the Dem. party.
I guess Edwards will be able to tap into NM only after he gets the nomination. Until then...

Brutal description Brian. We know why the Journal rarely reports anything but stories that help their cause - rightwing politics.

As for Richardson punishing those who give to Edwards or others, that's the beauty of small donations from many ordinary people. Edwards is running a great campaign so far and has the best netroots outreach by far.
