Introduction

The Iraq Summer campaign and other groups organized a Take a Stand townhall on August 28, 2007 at the UNM Continuing Education Auditorium in Albuquerque. The event was designed to urge Sen. Pete Domenici and Rep. Heather Wilson to vote to end the Iraq occupation. Both of them refused invitations to participate in the event.

Speakers included Albuquerque City Counselor Martin Heinrich; ex-Marine Bruce Clark, the parent of two sons in the military, one of whom is stationed north of Baghdad right now; Major General Mel Montano, US Air National Guard, Retired, and former Adjunct General of New Mexico; and Judy Pratt, activist, former NM State Senator and 1984 U.S. Senate candidate against Pete Domenici. The event was moderated by Carter Bundy of AFSCME and Greg Richardson of Iraq Summer.
