Jeff Armijo Press Conference Set for 4:45 Today

I just got word that Jeff Armijo is holding a press conference at 4:45 PM today at Bataan Park near Lomas and Carlisle. If Jeff is going to officially remove himself from the ballot as the Democratic candidate for State Auditor, he must do so by 5:00 PM today. Joe Monahan reported this morning that Armijo may be having second thoughts about withdrawing from race. Given the timing of the press conference, I guess it could go either way. The plot thickens.

Democratic State Central Committee members were getting phone calls over the long holiday weekend from Dems trying to garner support for replacing Armijo on the ballot, including popular progressive Rep. Hector Balderas, Albuquerque attorney and County Party Vice Chair Daniel Ivey-Soto and Mayor Chavez's buddy on the Albuquerque City Council, Ken Sanchez. It was assumed Armijo was quitting the race when he made a statement to that effect after meeting with Governor Richardson last week. At the moment, however, nothing is certain and Armijo hasn't yet removed his name from the ballot officially. More to come.

That's a tough position for Mr Armijo to be in, I really feel badly for him, nobody, regardless of party should have to deal with something like that in the public eye.

Wow, this could make things interesting. If Jeff stays in I have to say he's a brave guy -- or maybe he's just innocent and sick of being pushed around. Then again, he could be guilty but he never came off that way to me at all.

So are you saying it should have been dealt with privately? What if it's true? Should that be a private matter for a public official? Will you still feel "really badly for him" if the accusations are true?

Coco: How would you like to be held accountable without the necessity of an arrest, indictment or conviction? Anyone can file a police report saying anything. That doesn't mean it's true. In a time of very nasty politics, there's no telling whether something really happened or someone set him up for political reasons. That's the problem. Nothing has been proved and yet here's a candidate they're trying to force off the ticket whether he's ever proven guilty or not.

Maybe some woman should file a police report stating that Heather Wilson grabbed her. Same thing. Would Wilson be forced off the ticket?

Heather Wilson grabbed me!

COCO, whatever happened to innocent until PROVED GUILTY, apparently you don't understand how our Judicial system works. What I was saying is that Mr Armijo should not be tried in the court of public opinion before he is convicted in a court of law, if he is convicted THEN I will decide if I still feel badly about the accusations against him. Is that CLEAR or are YOU going to continue to make assumptions???

VP:

Your comment was that you felt badly for him and that nobody should have to deal with it publically.

You said nothing about innocence. I assumed you were going to support him regardless of whether the charges were true or not. My bad. Thank you for making it all perfectly clear.
