NM Sen. Ortiz y Pino to Introduce Impeachment Bill at NM Legislature

NM Sen. Gerald Ortiz y Pino plans to introduce a NM Impeachment Resolution at the NM Legislative Session that begins on January 16th in Santa Fe. Click to download a draft copy of the bill (PDF), which will be cosponsored by Sen. John Grubesic. The title of the bill is "A Joint Resolution Petitioning Congress to Commence the Investigation of and Impeachment Proceedings Against President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard B. Cheney."

A story on this effort in New Mexico is front-paged on Daily Kos today, and includes an excellent description of how the process works when a state legislature approves such a measure.

The proposed resolution also gets a mention in an article by David Swanson of AfterDowningStreet.org:

In New Mexico, a leading light of that state's politics, State Senator Gerald Ortiz y Pino of Albuquerque, will be leading the way on impeachment. He deserves the support of all the world, and you can thank him at jortizyp@aol.com or 505-986-4380. Let's help him make New Mexico the land of enchantment and impeachment.

If you'd like to urge your legislators to support this resolution, you can find contact information at the NM Legislature Website.

Does anyone know the bean counting on the prospects? I am sending Jerry some love on this one. Thanks for the heads up!

BTW, for all the pounding that Grubesic has taken, I have liked him in committee.

Go Jerry and John!

I wonder how much support this will get from Bill Richardson and other Democrats in the legislature. I'm sure a large number of ordinary Democrats would support it but you know how our "leaders" ignore that.

I wonder if perhaps someday science will be able to explain
why an un-reformed, un-rehabilitated, lifelong responsibilty evading drunk, with most of his brain cells long gone, can be elected twice, to the highest office in this country.

The Impeachment should have started ages ago...what's the big delay? He should be up for "Crimes against Humanity"

Lorraine I agree it should have been done long ago but there has to be at least some chance of passage to make it worthwhile. You can't get anything done in a congress where both houses were controled by republicans. Rather than complaining why not join the effort now and also to support other bills you want to see passed?

I would certainly like to know what Pelosi is getting in exchange for her refusal to talk about impeachment! It sure looks to me like she'd talking the Democratic talk while protecting the PNAC/ZIONIST agenda!!
Someone should tell her she wasn't elected Prom Queen!!!
The Dems acknowledged a Nov Mandate ... and are unwilling to ACT on it. W-H-Y ????

We all know the PNAC/Zionist/Bush/Cheney plan is for permanent Super military bases in the mideast (Iraq) from which to control the world through nuclear threat. UNTIL they have that, they will continue to control US Citizens through fear-mongering, and with a little help from their friends... What is Pelosi's hidden agenda?
I sure don't want her for a president, but at this point, I'd take Bart Simpson!
