Key Democrats Endorse Bill O’Neill in Senate District 13

Bill oneillWe recieved an update from Rep. Bill O'Neill of his campaign for Senate status; "My campaign for Senate District 13 is going very well, but Dede Feldman sets a high bar for us
all."

State Representative Bill O’Neill has received the endorsement of State Senator Jerry Ortiz y Pino and Albuquerque City Councilor Debbie O’Malley in his campaign to replace retiring Senator Dede Feldman in Senate District 13.

Both Ortiz y Pino and O’Malley pointed to O’Neill’s strong record as a legislator as important factors in their endorsement. "I have known Bill personally for nearly twenty years,” Ortiz y Pino said, “and I think he will make a great Senator.  One of the founding members of our Working Families Legislative Caucus, Bill will bring a strong Progressive voice to the Senate Chamber. I look forward to working with him."

“Representative O'Neill is a fighter,” O’Malley said, “and I believe that he will bring that passion and sensitivity to constituent concerns to Senate District 13. Bill has often come to our City Council meetings to advocate on behalf of his constituents. Dede's shoes are hard to fill, to say the least, but in Representative O'Neill we would have a strong successor."

O'Neill is completing his second term as a State Representative, and currently serves on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee.  He has been an advocate for senior citizens and children, and in the recent session co-sponsored with Senator Feldman a bill that would have required a "cooling off period" before elected officials can become lobbyists.

“I’m very pleased to have the endorsements of such respected leaders of our community,” O’Neill said. “Senator Feldman has been a strong advocate for all New Mexicans, especially in the areas of ethics and health care reform.  I will continue to champion these causes for the people of our district.”
