NM-1: Eric Griego's Powerful Momentum - A Campaign Update

351crop on stage

With only 23 days to go before voting begins, we have powerful momentum to win the Democratic primary for New Mexico’s First Congressional District. Let me give you some updates.

We are leading in fundraising.
We raised $275K in the previous quarter thanks to support from 1,378 New Mexicans. 96% of the contributions were less than $200. Through March 31st, we had raised $709K -- more than any of our opponents in either party.

I’m very proud of our 17,780 small-dollar donors each owning a piece of this people-powered campaign. And with $322K cash on hand through March 31st, we are in strong shape to get our message out to the voters heading into the final stretch.

We are leading in political endorsements.
Just in the past several days, we were endorsed by the American Postal Workers Union (APWU) Local 380, CHILE-PAC and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW).
Click here to view our massive and growing list of endorsements.

Our rapidly expanding Democratic coalition consists of 9 of the 11 labor unions that have endorsed in this race -- as well as environmental groups, progressive organizations, and leaders on women’s rights. They support our campaign because of my consistent record and principles. They also know that I am the strongest Democratic candidate to win on June 5th and on November 6th.

We are leading in grassroots organization.
We won the State Democratic Pre-Primary Convention on March 10th by relying on our strong grassroots organization. We defeated our two primary opponents, Marty Chavez and Michelle Lujan Grisham, by 8 and 15 points, respectively.

We are leading a national fight to hold the Republicans accountable for their disastrous budget plan to end Medicare.
We started and delivered over 5,000 petitions calling on our Republican opponent, Janice Arnold-Jones, to get on the record and choose between tax cuts for millionaires or Medicare for seniors. It inspired several other progressive candidates for Congress to do the same to keep the pressure up on the Republicans. Click here to see the video.

My actions to hold the Republicans accountable for their disastrous budget plan also earned me a national editorial in the U.S. News and World ReportClick here to read my editorial, titled “Ryan’s Budget a Blueprint for Republicans’ Electoral Defeat in 2012”.

We are leading in bold policy solutions
My comprehensive jobs plan is inspired by the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe after the Second World War. I will fight to put millions of Americans back to work immediately -- and sustainably -- by supporting bold investments to the tune of $1.5 trillion to rebuild or modernize America’s energy, technology and transportation infrastructure.

My campaign finance and ethics reform platform is backed up by my proven legislative success in getting corporate money out of politics, increasing transparency, and holding elected officials more accountable. In Congress, I will lead a national campaign to overturn Citizens United and support public financing of all elections.

As a son, a brother, an uncle, a grandson and a great-grandson to veterans and current active duty members of our military, I believe our men and women in uniform deserve more than a salute when they are sent in harm’s way.  I will always fight for veterans and returning heroes to ensure that they receive the care and benefits they have earned.

I know that women are the majority, and I have been an outspoken fighter for women’s rights as a legislator. That is why New Mexico’s two leading legislative champions on women’s issues -- Senator Dede Feldman and Representative Mimi Stewart -- have endorsed me to lead the fight against the Republican war on women.

Thank you for your support. Our powerful momentum is real, and we will win the Democratic Primary Election on June 5th.

I would like Democrat candidates to use the word "FIGHT" less. It sounds old hat and every politician uses the word. Let's try to say "Stand up for" or "Support for the average working person" We want politicians that vote in our interest but all the old hacks use the word fight. Let's find a new approach. I think the public hears the word fight and they immediately think, same ole, same ole.
