Michelle Lujan Grisham Continues Strong Fundraising Momentum in Congressional Contest this Quarter

Michelle lujan grishamThe following was provided by the Michelle Lujan Grisham for Congress Campaign.

For the second fundraising quarter in a row, Democrat Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-1) has sustained her momentum with a strong fundraising quarter in the highly competitive race for NM’s first congressional district.  Reporting over $322,000 total raised with $278,173.62 money in the bank to spend on the campaign in the months ahead, Lujan Grisham has established herself as a significant force in the upcoming primary election.  Lujan Grisham’s campaign is reporting $161,529.98 raised for the last quarter of 2011.  Lujan Grisham has $69,696.15 more than State Senator Eric Griego, and $60,548.73 more than former Albuquerque mayor Marty Chavez.

“I am overwhelmed by the support I have received in this race. There is no doubt we will have the resources to compete on TV and radio and go all the way in this important election.  We have been working harder and smarter and have saved over 85% of the money we have raised for the campaign,” said Lujan Grisham in making the reporting announcement.  “I am a fiscally responsible person and my campaign has demonstrated that by saving nearly 9 out of 10 dollars it has raised.  People who donate to my campaign know I will use their dollars wisely and voters should know that I will take care of their tax dollars wisely.”

The Michelle Lujan Grisham for Congress campaign donor base has a strong local flavor, with the vast majority, 84%, hailing from New Mexico. Lujan Grisham’s campaign is even outpacing Rep. Martin Heinrich’s initial successful campaign for Congress four years ago which reported $144,551 raised and $268,788 cash on hand at the end of the 4th quarter of 2007.

The news of this strong fundraising quarter for Lujan Grisham comes on the heels of endorsements from key statewide Democratic leaders including New Mexico Senators Lisa Curtis and Mary Kay Papen who joined Senators Tim Jennings, Linda Lovejoy, Howie Morales and John Arthur Smith, who have already pledged their support. While State Representative Ed Sandoval joined Representatives Gail Chasey, Donna Irwin, Rhonda King, Roger Madalena, Bill O’Neil, Nick Salazar, and Jim Trujillo.  This is also in addition to her campaign endorsement from the national pro-choice Democratic women’s organization EMILY’s List’s “On the List” program.

The President of EMILY’s List Stephanie Schriock said of Lujan Grisham, “Michelle is a leader in her community and a prime example of what a strong woman can accomplish in public office.  Her campaign is already energized with grassroots support. Voters are eager for leadership in Washington that works on behalf of working families – and they know Michelle has their best interests in mind. Michelle will help lead Democrats to take back the House in 2012, and EMILY’s List is thrilled to support her campaign.”

Her campaign has stressed jobs for New Mexicans, protecting seniors and fostering an exceptional standard of living as paramount to America’s future prosperity.
