(Updated: Heinrich, Lujan Vote NO) House Passes Tax Cut Deal 277-148; Estate Tax Amendment Fails

Update: Rep. Martin Heinrich and Rep. Ben Ray Lujan voted NO. Rep. Harry Teague voted YES. Here's the roll call tally. I consider the NO votes of Martin and Ben Ray to be demonstrative of their having the courage of their convictions -- and the courage to represent ours. A deeply felt thank you goes out to both of them.

The House of Representatives has passed the Obama-GOP tax cut deal on a 277-148 vote, sending the bill to the president. Earlier, an amendment to make the estate tax cut smaller was defeated in response to threats that it would scuttle the entire tax deal because it would have to go back to the Senate. 139 Democrats voted for the deal and 112 opposed it. On the GOP side, 138 voted for it and 36 voted against it.

Thanks for the info - I'm glad to see the our DC Dems saw this for the disaster that it is!

Besides all the bad in this bill I fear there is something much worse - its the attack on Social Security. Here's a comment I just made on this Huff Pos article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/12/16/david-wu-2-for-1-deal-democratic-values_n_797893.html

Through the cowardice of the Democrats in the House and Senate and the cowardice and indifference of the President the destruction of Social Security has finally begun.

I would like to publicly apologize for voting for Barach Obama, the Democratic President that helped to destroy Social Security by defunding it! This has long been the Republican's preferred mechanism to destroy Social Security. They must find it entertaining that it was a so-called Democratic President that began the process.

After he announced his Catfood Commission I thought we couldn't trust Obama with Social Security - this is just more evidence that my feeling was right. Here's a link to a Politico article, know its Politico and therefore instantly suspect, but it fits with what we are all seeing so I add it as a future warning of horrors to come -

I really hope I'm wrong here but fear the Big O is going to turn out to be a huge disaster for the US and the Democratic Party.

By-the-by, I hope folks finally realize what a tool of the DC establishment Nancy Pelosi is -

Didn't she promise something about not being locked into the Senate bill or something like that?

Anybody feelings another of her knifes in their backs?

I agree with mwfolson except on Pelosi. She was backed into a horrible corner by Obama's "deal". Obama will pay for this. Everyone I know is sick of his dishonesty and lack of scruples.
