Teague Airs First TV Ad, Focusing on His Connection to Constituents in the Second District

The Harry Teague for Congress campaign has rolled out its first television commercial. Entitled “Driving,” the new 60-second (not the usual 30-second) ad began airing today throughout New Mexico's Second Congressional District. You can watch it in the video above and see the transcript below.

Well done. I think this ad really captures Harry's down-home approach to politics, and his dedication to staying in touch with his constituents and representing their interests in Congress -- because he is one of them. No career politician, Teague ran for office after many years as a successful small business owner to be a public servant of the folks in his district, and it shows in every aspect of how he conducts himself on the job.

The ad highlights Teague’s hard work and wide-ranging outreach in the expansive Southern New Mexico district. Geographically bigger than the entire state of Pennsylvania, the 2nd District is the sixth largest district in the country. The ad shows Teague on the move, demonstrating how he travels his big district not just at campaign time, but throughout the year.

“Harry takes pride in being an independent voice and a different kind of representative for southern New Mexico -- one who works hard to stay in touch with the communities he represents," said Dominic Gabello, Teague's campaign manager, in a statement commenting on the ad. "Rather than spend all his time in Washington, Harry comes home and he spends time traveling the district and working to help people. One Alamogordo resident has even commented that Harry’s approach to the job has made him the hardest working Representative since Joe Skeen.”

Harry has been back in southern New Mexico nearly every weekend since he got elected, according to his campaign. He has visited each county multiple times, has held well over 100 public town hall meetings and has focused on the needs of local people and local communities. A fighter for New Mexico veterans and a champion for New Mexico energy, Harry has worked hard to represent the people of the 2nd District the best way he knows how -- and that is to stay in touch so that he can help and so that he can take their concerns to Washington.

Teague comes across as friendly, open and down to earth in this ad -- just a regular guy who happens to be a Congressman. He's positive and good-natured -- just as he's known to be in real life. Let's see how his opponent -- who's known to be a regular sourpuss -- comes across when he gets his first TV ad in gear. My guess is he'll be his usual negative, complaining, mean-spirited self because, well, that's who he is.

Transcript:

HARRY TEAGUE: As I go around every weekend when I am home and we are driving hundreds of miles across the district, you get to know a lot of people. I think of friends that I have in the far corners of this district that I didn’t know until I was their Congressman.

MAN: He comes out and he visits the constituents.

HARRY TEAGUE: I am there to represent the people of the second congressional district, not to represent a party. I like listening to people and finding out how I can help.

WOMAN: He doesn’t just come around during election time. He is here all the time.

HARRY TEAGUE: My dad was a sharecropper and what I learned most from working at an early age is that everybody has to work.

MAN: Harry Teague is a regular person.

HARRY TEAGUE: I did grow up in tough times, but we are in tough times right now.

MAN: Harry is one of us.

HARRY TEAGUE: It makes you feel good when you are able to do things to help people.

MAN: I see that he is concerned and that’s all I need to know.

MAN: He cares about New Mexico and the people in it.

HARRY TEAGUE: I’m Harry Teague and I approve this message and I’ll take New Mexico in the right direction.

Nice positive ad Harry Teague. He is our guy in Socorro. He visits us quite often and listens to our concerns.

Hey, that's the Mountaintop Merchantile in Cloudcroft! Right at the beginning and then at 25 seconds into the ad. Our local grocery, bakes its own pies.
