Teague Okays First Round of Debates, Challenges Pearce to Radio Debate Series

HteagueCR Today, Harry Teague announced the first round of confirmed debates for New Mexico’s second congressional district race and challenged Congressman Steve Pearce to a series of radio debates across the district.

Harry Teague stated in a letter to Congressman Pearce (pdf),

In my short time as the Representative for this district, I have visited each county multiple times, held over 110 public forums and countless constituent meetings, and my office has processed nearly 2,000 constituent cases. And what I’ve learned is that while you can’t please 100% of the people 100% of the time, New Mexicans truly appreciate having a representative who is willing to hear them out, willing to answer their questions, and willing to work hard to help them.

That’s why over the remaining 67 days of this campaign, I’m going to keep doing what I’ve been doing -- traveling the district and discussing the issues that are important to the people of New Mexico’s 2nd congressional district.

I look forward to comparing our records so that the residents of the 2nd congressional district can make a well-informed decision about who will better represent them.

Teague committed to participate in two televised debates on a wide range of issues, one hosted by KOAT and the Albuquerque Journal on October 24th and a second debate in Las Cruces hosted by New Mexico Public Broadcasters in partnership with New Mexico 1st on October 27th to be aired on KRWG.

Teague also challenged Congressman Pearce to join him in a round of radio debates. The first proposed debate will focus on Border Security and be held on September 20th at KRWG in Las Cruces. The second debate will focus on Veteran-related issues on September 27th on Alamogordo’s Country 105.3, KZZX and simulcast on Newstalk am 1270, KINN. The final debate of the first round will center around Congressional Reform on October 4th on Artesia’s KSVP radio.

Two-three debates is plenty. Radio debates sound like a good idea!

Pearce proposed 18 debates. That is riduculous. I want our congressman in Washington, working for our district, and when he is in the district, he has other constituents besides Pearce who want to talk to him.
