Dem State Rep. Elias Barela Seizes Momentum in Valencia County's District 8 Primary

EliasBarela120 State Rep. Elias Barela, who has a challenger in the June 1 Democratic primary in District 8, seized the momentum in his campaign for re-election today when he announced the endorsements of nine high-profile organizations that play an important role in the Valencia County community. Quite an achievement.

Representative Barela is a retired military officer with over 20 years in the Army and National Guard, as well as a local attorney in Valencia County. He has served in the Legislature since 2007, where he has worked hard to represent working families and pushed New Mexico toward a more open and ethical State Government.

Today’s endorsements include:

  • The New Mexico Federation of Labor
  • National Education Association – New Mexico
  • American Federation of Teachers – New Mexico
  • Conservation Voters New Mexico
  • New Mexico Progressive Action
  • New Mexico Building & Construction Trades Council
  • Ironworkers
  • AFSCME
  • IBEW

Commenting on the endorsements, Rep. Barela said:

“Although I have only been a legislator for a short time, I have fought hard to change the way we do business in Santa Fe. My values come from my community, and I am proud to put them to work for the people I serve every day. It is a great honor to have that work recognized by such a broad base of organizations that are all working with me to move New Mexico forward.”

It's important that we help Rep. Elias Barela keep this seat. You can support him in his reelection bid by making an online donation to his campaign or signing up as a volunteer.

I want you all to know that Rep. Elias is a progressive person which is very difficult to sustain in his district. There are many loyal democrats in Los Lunas and I am one of them. But they are also rather conservative. Elias holds his ground and gently persuades his constitutients toward a more tolerant and progressive way of being dems. Please tell everyone you know in Los Lunas to vote for Elias Barela

When Elias speaks in Santa Fe people listen. He is thoughtful and yet pulls no punches. His military experience and legal minded intellect help our democratic causes in the House. It is imperative that we all ensure that Rep. Barela wins n June 1st.

We can't let Rep. Barela lose this seat. He is one of the good guys and his opponent is spreading lies about him. We need to stand up to it.
