Lt. Gov. Candidate Brian Colón Raises $170,917 This Period, $447,952 in Total
Brian Colón, Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor, released a statement today saying his campaign showed strong statewide grassroots support when he filed his campaign finance report with the NM Secretary of State's office today. The report showed 80% of the contributions coming from supporters who gave $250 or less.
"We have received more than 1,500 contributions from more than 1,000 donors from all corners of New Mexico. I am especially pleased that some many supporters have contributed more than once as they continue to reinvest in our campaign," Colón said in a written statement. "In difficult times like these, I'm honored to have so many Democrats supporting our campaign because they share my belief that now is the time to rebuild our economy and invest in public education to help prepare our children for the jobs of tomorrow."
Colón raised $170,917.42 this filing period in donations and in-kind support and has grown a large donor base of 1,093 contributors. Colón has received $447,952 in contributions since the start of his campaign for Lieutenant Governor and has not loaned any money to the campaign.
His campaign had an opening balance of $251,049, and raised a total of $156,490 in donations this reporting period, received in-kind donations of $14,428, spent $201,652 this quarter and has $205,887 in cash on hand. Click to see his April 12, 2010 report to the Secretary of State.

He sure blew Lawrence Rael out of the water.

Colon has pages and pages of small donors. Rael has way fewer donors and most of them are larger amounts. Colon is the grassroots candidate between the two by far

Brian has what it takes to win!!

I wish I could have given more then 50, but glad to see many others stepped up with small contributions. I hope to be able to give another 50 this cycle and hope others will too.

I would've expected more from Brian considering his connections with the governor and the party insiders.

@Harley
Good point, it makes you wonder if the connections to the Gov are real. Most of the Gov's heavy weights can be found on Rael's report.
Brian has a large amount of small donors... which just demonstrates all the speculation about him being the Govs boy, may just be slander by Jerry Ortiz Y Pino... so that he can chip of some progressives.

I see that all kinds of people donated to Colon and many were small donations. Rael has the big donors as DEMand Truth says. Where are the reports of Joe Campos and Ortiz y Pino? Colon is ahead because of hard work and supporters all over the state.

@Pat: The SoS reports some glitches. No need to assume a problem. Ray Powell.s report is also missing.

Joe Campos was late last reporting period as well. He finally posted today.

I was the treasurer on a state house race once. Doing the reporting is an absolute pain in the *ss. The software can be cantankerous. I don't blame Joe for a day-late report, especially since the SoS gave campaigns extra time to file because of problems with the system. There's no need to ascribe malice or incompetence to every problem. The numbers are here, right? If you want to see possible malice or incompetence, check out Dennis W. Montoya's filing.

The wack job Dennis W. Montoya says he collected zero donations and spent $200 this whole time? Right, that's why he was disqualified from public funding. Stop this man from serving on any court! Tell all your friends to vote for Judge Linda Vanzi!

@Harley and Jerry's minions: So who are these contributors of funds somehow tainted by El Gato Gordo? We want names and amounts! Without evidence, I have to assume that Jerry and his overzealous followers have made the whole thing up. Unless Jerry thinks that all money is tainted since he has so little of it.
Good Democrats don't make up bullsh*t accusations against other Democrats. If the target wins the primary, the Rethuglicans will recycle the charges in the General election. Negative campaigning both the accuser and accused, and therefore is almost never used by a candidate who thinks s/he can win. Therefore, even Jerry can't think much of his chances. So what's he doing this for? Does he hate Brian Colon that much, or is he trying to swing the election to his buddy Rael? Jerry, how could you? Inquiring minds want to know.
