First Up: Las Cruces Sun-News Endorsements

Newspapers around the state will soon be publishing their endorsements for candidates running in the June 6 New Mexico primary. The Las Cruces Sun-News seems to be first out of the box with their endorsements of Democratic candidates in contested primaries:

Geno Zamora for attorney general, Stephanie Gonzales for secretary of state, Jim Baca for land commissioner and Thomas Buckner for auditor in Democratic primary races for statewide office.

Follow the link to their article that explains why.

UPDATE: The Silver City Sun-News and the Hobbs News-Sun also endorsed Geno Zamora for attorney general.

Hey, they match my preferences exactly!

I don't pay much attention to who newspapers recommend for my vote, nor do I think anyone else should. Think for yourself, consider candidate competency and look at the big picture, it helps to give some thought to the consequences of your vote also. Kind of like, if I vote for this drunk because I like the idea of bars open 24/7, should I be surprised when he/she wants to make it legal to drive drunk? Maybe a poor example, but it's only meant to get the idea across. Unfortunately far too many people are one issue voters or vote for all the wrong reasons, leading to the kind of incompetent cabal that we see in the White House now.

I met the candidates in Socorro yesterday.
Does anyone think Zamora may be too close to the Governor?

gofdisks: Zamora is Gov. Richardsons Choice for A/G and Zamora was Richardson legal advisor during the KICK BACK SANDAL and other important issues. Thank God there are to other choices for A/G, King and Martinez.

I think the newspaper endorsements are helpful to those who don't know that much about candidates if they go into some detail about why the paper is backing certain candidates. For instance I think the LC newspaper provides solid reasons to support Zamora.

Contrary to what Eli says, Zamora is his own man and Tom Udall was his mentor. Just because you work in an administration doesn't mean you approve of everything they do. Geno has a great proposal for an ethics commission much like the judicial standards commission that sets standards for judges and much more. On the other hand Gary King says that's too much bureauocracy and would leave the AG's office in charge of ethics cases. I don't agree with that at all.
